Quite simply one of the best hotels I have stayed at in North East England.
Fantastic Birthday Experience
My husband and I were looking for a hotel to stay at to celebrate his 50th birthday. We had been to Otterburn Tower previously (around 4 years ago) and remembered that the food was good and the accomodation was very nice. We left it until just a few days before the trip to book as, due to some family commitments, we were unsure whether we would be able to travel or not. As it turned out our weekend was free so I visited laterooms.com and booked a standard room with breakfast for £85. I would have gone for the four poster room but unfortunately by the time I booked they had all gone.
We arrived at the hotel at around 4.30pm on the Saturday and check in was quick and easy and the receptionist friendly and helpful. The hotel looks like a castle and that was what originally attracted us. I have a bit of a thing for castles and the lovely old hotel is full of character and features. We were shown to our room which, by coincidence, was the exact same room we had previously stayed in. The room was very large with a big bathroom and decorated to a good standard.
We relaxed in the room and enjoyed the peace and quiet until it was time to go to dinner in the Oak Room which we has booked for 8.30pm. We were greeted at the bottom of the stairs by a gentleman who took us to the lounge and gave us menus and nibbles while we enjoyed a pre dinner drink and chose our food and wine.
We were shown to our table and were served an appetiser prior to our starters and mains. The food was outstanding. Both my husband and I have been to many hotels and restaurants but I have to say that this was one of the best meals that I have had. The scallops were to die for!. Unfortunately, we had no room for desert but I have no doubt that it would have been just as delicious. The service was fantastic and I am unable to fault our experience in any way.
After enjoying a good nights sleep breakfast was every bit as good. My husband is a bit fussy about his full English but he said that it was one of the best he had been served in any hotel.
Check out was, once again, quick and easy and the receptionist chatted happily to us as we checked out. We found out that the hotel has 18 rooms of a good size and the owners farm out the back of the hotel provides a lot of the meat that is used in the hotel. Where possible the chefs source local ingredients which was nice to hear.
If I was going to be super picky my only complaint would be that the shower was a little slippy and when we arrived the room was a little colder than we would have liked but it soon warmed up and as I say, that is being very fussy as I am really struggling to think of any negatives.
In summary, we had a lovely, quiet break in a beautiful location in a wonderful hotel with excellent service and outstanding food. My husband throughly enjoyed his birthday treat and I have no doubt that we will be back again. However, we won't be leaving it four years this time! from Late Rooms..

'Met our friends at Otterburn Tower for two night DB&B break. Lovely old, castellated house set in remote and tiny Otterburn. Great service, everyone very pleasant and did their best to accommodate our needs. Mr Goodfellow, the owner, was very much in evidence with hands on and interested in our daily activities. Quiet spacious room, slept well and they were happy to have our well-behaved dog. Big bathroom, lots of hot water and good towels. The best bit was the food - they have recently achieved 2 rosette status and it was excellent. The only areas for improvement were the decor needed cheering up - obviously mega-money has already been spent and there is an on-going programme......' Great Food, Service and Value..
Very nice hotel. Food good. Staff efficient and friendly. Lovely big room with 4-poster bed and an amazing antique wardrobe.
Stayed for 1 night while on-route to Inverness, got a good deal on Late Rooms (50% off). Everything we needed and felt a sense of history there. Would recommend to friends, or anyone else. steelewheels123, Liverpool

Myself and my partner stayed at your beautiful hotel on 29th January and I just wanted to express what a fabulous time we had. The room was lovely and the staff were all fantastic. We ate in The Tower Inn. I had the pate starter which was beautiful and rib eye steak main course was to die for. Restaurant staff were excellent and very friendly. We then ended up in the bar playing chess and had a really good night and we had a good natter with the locals and off duty staff. Although we missed breakfast in the morning we were offered a bacon sandwich which was much appreciated as we had a fairly long drive ahead of us. All in all I would recommend a stay here to anyone. Well worth the drive…..

By courtesy of our family, Philip and I managed to get away to Scotland for a slightly delayed honeymoon and have just returned.
What can we say John, you did us proud for our wedding day on April 9th. We were thrilled with everything that you and your brilliant staff did for us. They are a credit to you.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making our day so special. Everyone passed lovely comments about the excellent service from all of your staff, venue was fantastic and the food was top class. Your professionalism shone throughout our day and I just felt like a princess. You sure made a hit with my two grandsons, Joe and Sam, they thought you were great.
Philip and I were so happy, we just wished we could bottle the feelings we experienced at Otterburn Tower.
Wedding Celebration!
Geoff and I would like to also take this opportunity to thank John, Jolanda, Jan and everybody else who helped make our wedding day so special, creating such a wonderful day with memories that we will cherish forever,
